Dr. Jeffrey A. Fishbein is a licensed clinical psychologist and a nationally recognized sport psychology consultant. He received his undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin—Madison, and his Masters and Doctorate Degrees from the Adler School of Professional Psychology in Chicago.
Dr. Fishbein’s clinical practice consists of patients ranging in age from older children to middle age adults. Clinically, Dr. Fishbein’s main interests are in working with adolescents and adults experiencing a wide range of problems. A typical patient may be an adolescent experiencing difficulties with his/her social, academic, or emotional functioning; or an adult struggling with transition issues, career uncertainty, and/or relationship difficulties. Dr. Fishbein also helps many professionals deal with stress, pressure, and expectations related to their performance in the occupational realm.
As a nationally recognized sport psychology consultant, and founder of Fishbein Performance Consulting, P.C., Dr. Fishbein has worked with elite high school, collegiate, and professional athletes over the past 12 years, both locally and nationally. Most recently, Dr. Fishbein has been, and continues to be, the sport psychology consultant to the 2003 World Series Champion Florida Marlins, where he has provided services for the past six years. Previous to that, Dr. Fishbein spent three years with the Montreal Expos Professional Baseball Organization. In addition, Dr. Fishbein is currently the head sport psychology consultant to the Northwestern University Athletic Department in Evanston, Illinois. At Northwestern, Dr. Fishbein works with the university’s top athletes from all sports in order to increase their performance on and off the field. Dr. Fishbein is also a writer and speaker for Championship Performance, a resource for athletes and coaches on the psychology of peak performance offering leadership speakers, training seminars, and publications.
Philosophically, Dr. Fishbein sees the problems both individuals and athletes present with as manifestations of greater issues to be assessed, evaluated, and treated. He views individuals holistically, and not simply as individuals with symptoms to be treated. Using a combination of theoretical approaches, often using psychodynamic psychotherapy with a cognitive-behavioral emphasis, Dr. Fishbein’s approach is thorough, exhaustive, methodical, and effective.
